London is a city that print media has already exhausted — or so the glossies would have you believe. London Quarterly exists on the premise that this couldn’t be further from the truth.
We cover the city’s fashion, food, and nightlife scenes that rarely make it past the postcode they started in: the tailor above a Peckham newsagent who’s dressing half of south London’s DJs, the Bermondsey supper club that takes eight months to get a table at, the Deptford basement where the best set you’ll hear all year happens on a random Tuesday. Not because these places are secrets for secrecy’s sake, but because the people running them are too busy doing the work to court a write-up — so we go and find them.
Every issue is built by writers who live in the neighbourhoods they cover, not journalists parachuting in for a trend piece. We’re less interested in “best of” lists than in the specific, slightly obsessive knowledge that only comes from actually being there — who’s cooking, who’s cutting cloth, who’s behind the decks, and why it matters right now.
